In memory of my Grandfather - Rudolph Schilt
May 18th, 1912 - March 31, 1990
My Grandfather was a farmer all of his life. There weren't "vacations" or getaways for him, only more work to do. I did get a chance to spend time with him (when I was a kid) on weekends, when my parents and I would drive to Argyle, WI to help out with cutting wood, milking cows, and bailing hay. My memories from that time (mid 1970's to mid 1980's) are good. I remember Grandpa watching Hee Haw every weekend, which is the only time I remember him sitting. I was told that Grandpa was a big fan of Jack Benny in the 40's and 50's. My Mother remembers him watching Jack on Television. Mom said it was one of his favorite shows and he laughed a lot. For a man that worked as hard as he did, not much "fun" in everyday life, Jack's show gave him a chance to laugh.
I did visit my Grandfather shortly before he passed away from cancer. We sat and talked about life, what he was going thru, and how I was doing. It was a conversation I will never forget. He was a good man. This is why the work I do on this web site is dedicated in his memory.
